KTC Training with Active Democracy Bean
February 1 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Voices of Bean is hosting a Kitchen Table Conversation training evening, facilitated by Cath Blunt from Active Democracy Bean (ADB). The evening is intended for anyone interested in using KTCs to engage with their community and is not exclusive to members of Voices of Bean.
Kitchen Table Conversations are a key means of engagement used by Voices and other groups. In short, a host invites up to nine people (family, friends, colleagues, neighbours) to attend a discussion where everyone has a chance to talk about the issues that concern them. A scribe notes down the issues that are raised and this data from many conversations is collated by the group to understand the issues across the community.
Cath Blunt loves KTCs as a means of having respectful and participatory conversations, where everyone’s ideas are welcome and listening is the name of the game. She did her initial training in the KTC methodology with Mary Crooks from the Victorian Women’s Trust (VWT) in 2013 and has run 5 series of KTCs and 3 training sessions since then in her local community. ADB ran KTCs for the Voice (VWT’s Together, Yes ) in 2023 and provided opportunities for ongoing support for Canberra hosts in the second half of last year. Anyone can be a KTC host and has the skills to do so. However a few tips on the process will build your confidence and give you a safe structure to work within which your participants will love. We will practice actually doing a mini KTC so come along and try it out!
