Tim Dunlop is an Australian writer and researcher based in Melbourne. He is known for his insightful works on media, politics, and the future of work.
Tim holds a PhD in Communication and Political Philosophy from the University of Canberra and has taught media studies at Swinburne University and at the University of Melbourne’s postgraduate school of journalism, The Centre for Advancing Journalism. He is also a Fellow of the Australia Basic Income Lab based at the Crawford School of Government at the ANU.
Tim has been a columnist for the ABC Online, as well for News Corp at news.com.au and has contributed to many other newspapers and magazines including The Guardian, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, as well as The Saturday Paper.
Tim has written four influential books that have been translated into other languages and is a prominent voice in discussions in Australia and overseas about democratic reform and the impact of technology on society.
His latest book, Voices of Us, was released just after the 2022 federal election and is an account of the rise of the community independents who came to prominence during that election. It draws on interviews with those community organisations as well as his many years of research into the ways in which ordinary citizens can organise themselves and have an impact on the political process.
The Media Landscape with Caroline Fisher
Dr Caroline Fisher is an Associate Professor at University of Canberra, was a reporter, presenter and producer for ABC News and Radio National, and spent three years as a ministerial media adviser to Anna Bligh in the Queensland government. Caroline is a recognised commentator on journalism, media and politics.
This webinar focused on the fragmentation of the media landscape and how Independents might navigate it, and was a joint event between Voices of Bean and Voices for Canberra.
